I took a drive....

I took a drive tonight.
All by myself.
It was nice.
I figured out a few things:
If you don't know what it means to 'mark a field',
If you don't know how manure can smell so sweet,
If you don't know what it is like to look forward to a dirt road,
If you don't know what it's like to look in your rearview mirror and see your trail of dust,
If you've never watched a calf being born,
If you're kids don't know how to drive a tractor,
If you don't know what gated pipe is,
If you don't wave at every car that you pass,
If your kids don't get dirty everyday playing outside,
And you don't know how to go to the grocery store once a month,
Then you probably live in the city... and I feel sorry for you.
Truly, I think raising a kid in the country is the best place.
I still love you city folk though!

I am going to have to agree with you on that...I'm pretty sure that our kids don't know half of whats one that list. Besides being lonely form time to time I think I would LOVE it. Glad to hear a postive side to living in a modular on the prairie...It seems to me that things would be a lot more simple....I love simple!

Well I don't know what it means to 'mark a field', but I do know how manure can smell sweet...seriously I do! I know it might sound gross, but that smell reminds me of so many wonderful memories :)! I would love for my children to be able to grow up with lots of land and live a life of hard work and simplicity...but you know that I would need a good sized city to be about twenty minutes away. Where can I find somewhere like that?!
Good to hear that you still love us city folk!

Wow, that was a simple post, but it made me so jealous. I would love to have my kids experience that. It seems like such a character building experience.

im convinced. i love the small town feel. and sadly enough i know all too well what it feels like to go to the grocery store only once a month. seriously, ask miah. it's my least favorite place on earth.

i'm thinking we are in need for a visit, the kids are due for their dose of country living...and we miss you guys!

Is it bad that I don't know what some of those things are???? I am a sad sad city folk. I go to the grocery store every week. I wish I could survive without, but I would need a good lesson from you!!

I am with Court, I am a little embarassed to admit I don't know what some of these things are!! But I want to! Maybe your next post should be country definitions? :) I think raising kids in the country would be awesome. I love the thought of living simply and the kids working and playing hard..it sort of seems like the way things should be. I know Luke would LOVE it..dirt, animals, tractors...what's not to love? Maybe we need to come take a visit!!
